Outdoor Burning

Controlled Burns

Please notify us if you plan to do outdoor burning by calling (501) 624-6229.

Here are some tips.

  • Check for a burn ban in your area.
  • Notify FLFD of your plans.
  • Stay close and monitor the fire at all times. It can get out of control quickly.
  • Don’t burn in windy conditions and extinguish the fire if the wind picks up.
  • Have a good water source on hand, as well as a fire extinguisher.
  • When finished, be certain the fire is fully extinguished with water and won’t reignite.

Burning Rules

The easy summary of the law is that nothing man made should be burned.  Limbs, brush, etc. may be burned providing there is no burn ban, and providing the person keeps their fire under control.
Household trash, construction materials and demolition waste, including lumber, cannot be burned according to state law.

Allowed items:

  • Tree limbs and brush.
  • Leaves.
  • Yard clippings.

Not Allowed:

  • Household garbage or trash.
  • Construction or demolition waste.
  • Wood scraps or treated lumber.
  • Tires or other automotive parts.
  • Chemicals including oils, fuels, and solvents.

Specifically, the Arkansas Department of Energy and Environment says in Regulation 18, found here https://www.adeq.state.ar.us/regs/ Reg.  18.602 General Prohibition, "No person shall cause or permit the open  burning of refuse, garbage, trade waste, or other waste material, or  shall conduct a salvage operation by open burning."
